Fraser Gunn comes from Southland, but has lived in the Mackenzie since 1999. He worked for Earth & Sky (now Dark Sky Project) for several years, where he introduced the techniques of astrophotography to astro-tourists, and a few years later he established his own astro-photography business in Tekapo.

Fraser now lives in Fairlie and is employed as an observer at Mt John Observatory, working on research projects for the University of Canterbury astronomers. His images and timelapse videos are legendary and have been featured in the media, books and magazines.
